Brittany Ferries Plans Ahead for 2014

BarfleurCross Channel ferry company Brittany Ferries has published its sailing schedule for crossings to and from Normandy up until autumn 2014.

The firm said that it wants to let customers plan their Christmas getaways, spring breaks and summer holidays now.

The Portsmouth Le Havre route which launched in May this year will return in 2014, with high speed departures every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 22nd May to 07 September. Crossing time is three hours and 45 minutes.

Brittany Ferries is increasing the number of sailings on its popular route from Portsmouth to Caen in the heart of Normandy. The year round service will now offer three sailings a day in each direction on most days of the week. The company expects 2014 to be a busy year for the route, with the 70th anniversary commemorations of the D Day as well as the 2014 World Equestrian Games which will take place in August.

The seasonal Portsmouth to Cherbourg service offers the speediest crossing on the Western Channel at three and in 2014 sailings will start on 17 April, earlier in the season than usual. Additionally the Normandie Express fastcraft which operates the route will be fitted with a new premium seating area in time for the new season, which the firm says will allow customers to enjoy an even more luxurious travel experience for a small extra charge.

The Barfleur cruise ferry will now operate almost year round, connecting the Dorset port of Poole with Cherbourg on the tip of the Cotentin peninsula. Cherbourg now offers fast road connections to the French motorway network thanks to a newly completed dual carriageway which links the N13 and A84.

For those wishing to travel further afield the 2014 schedule will once again include four weekly round trips from Portsmouth to Bilbao and Santander in Spain, and one weekly round trip from Plymouth to Santander.

As well as the routes mentioned above, Brittany Ferries will continue to offer daily Portsmouth to St Malo and Plymouth to Roscoff services for most of the year. Altogether the company will be offering 118 sailings a week in peak season, with 10 routes linking 11 ports.

‘With the release of the new schedules, customers can now take their pick of the most popular sailings, and book them for a £25 deposit with the balance not having to be paid until 46 days before departure,’ said a Brittany Ferries spokesman.
